📅 August 1st
On this day, scouts around the world celebrate World Scout Scarf Day — a moment to honor the origins of Scouting and to renew the promise to serve: to God, to one’s country, and to others.
For members of Plast – the National Scout Organization of Ukraine, August 1st carries an even deeper meaning. It is Plast Scarf Day, when every scarf becomes a symbol that speaks without words:
“I am part of a community that strives to make the world a better place.”
Why August 1st Matters
On August 1st, 1907, the first-ever Scout camp opened on Brownsea Island. Since then, the scout scarf has grown to represent far more than a part of the uniform. It has become:
- a compass,
- a reminder of shared values,
- a sign of one’s commitment to live by the Scout Law and Promise.
For scouts across the globe, wearing the scarf is a simple act with powerful meaning.
A Day of Remembrance for Ukrainians
For Ukrainians, Plast Scarf Day is more than a celebration — it is a moment of remembrance.
It is a day to honor those who once stood with us in Plast, who are no longer physically here, but who will remain part of our community forever.
It is also a reminder of our duty:
to do everything within our power for our country, our people, and the values we uphold.
Once a Scout — Always a Scout
This simple phrase carries the essence of Scouting. On August 1st, as Plast members in Ukraine and worldwide put on their scarves, they affirm a promise that continues throughout life.
Once a Scout — always a Scout.
