During a recent visit to Varna, Bulgaria, Ukrainian Scouts from Plast had the honor of meeting the inspiring “Albatros” Scout Club — one of the city’s four active scout groups, founded in 2021, with 50 scouts and 10 dedicated leaders.
This meeting was much more than a simple visit; it became a true moment of cultural exchange, where scouts from two nations connected through friendship, tradition, and shared scouting values.
Warm Bulgarian Hospitality
The Ukrainian scouts were welcomed with traditional Bulgarian bread dipped in honey and salt with spices, a unique and memorable taste of local hospitality. They also learned about Varna’s treasures — from beaches and dairy products to the famous roses used in soap, perfume, and cosmetics production.
Dancing, Games, and History
The scouts shared joyful moments together:
💃 Traditional Bulgarian folk dance — a lively introduction to local culture (some Ukrainian scouts admitted they need more practice 😄).
🍪 Ancient coin cookies — a sweet tribute to the gold treasure once discovered in Varna.
🖼️ Photos and videos of Bulgarian scouting activities — showcasing fun, care, and the spirit of scouting.
In return, the Ukrainian scouts introduced Plast traditions, including opening ceremonies for younger and older scouts, and led two scout games, creating laughter and connection.
Gifts and Symbols of Friendship
The meeting also included a meaningful exchange of gifts:
🎁 Scout scarves were swapped between groups, and each Bulgarian scout received a blue-and-yellow heart made of beads — a symbol of friendship from Ukraine to Bulgaria.
Building Global Scout Connections
This visit highlighted the true power of international scouting: different languages and cultures, yet the same values of service, friendship, and adventure. Ukrainian and Bulgarian scouts proved that scouting can unite hearts across borders.
A heartfelt thank you to Albatros Scout Club, Varna, for the stories, the food, and the joy shared. We look forward to the next meeting — somewhere under the stars of our shared scout world! ✨🌍
