Helping the Scouts during the War | Plast - scouting organization

What are we doing to promote victory!

On February 24, 2022, due to Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine, we altered our activities. Currently, Plast is working on three main goals: helping children adapt; providing humanitarian aid; and supporting scouts in the military.

How can you help?

1. Invite plast members to scouting events in your countries to help develop children of Ukraine.

2. Send humanitarian aid to Ukrainians affected by the war.

3. Support Plast with your donation.

1. Helping children and youth to adapt

Even during the war, we do not cease to work on the development of young people in scouting. They are the future of Ukraine!

Work with children and youth is carried out offline only over a third of the territory of Ukraine. On the remaining territory, it occurs online or in bomb shelters.

Physical safety, psychological health and supporting oneself and close ones are themes that adults help kids come to understand during activities.

What we achieved in 2023

184

camps were held in Ukraine and abroad

6000+

children took part in the camps

950

Scouts visited activities of scouting friends in Europe

What activities do we organize for children and youth?

Camps

Currently, camps are places where kids can develop and consolidate the skills they learned during the year. They can rest psychologically from the realities of war and spend time with friends. To keep scouts safe, some camps are held abroad.

Weekly activities

Due to safety concerns, weekly activities with young people take place online or at sites with bomb shelters. Activities are led in such a way to help kids adapt to life during times of war.

Plast events

Due to the war, we are unable to hold many of our traditional large scale events (sporting events, competitions, artistic festivals etc). Instead, we are organizing local events to avoid large gatherings: including training events, hikes, competitions and marketplaces.

Projects to support scouts in the army and communities

Children and youth, together with their parents and counselors, are contributing to help plast scouts or affected Ukrainians by weaving camouflage netting, gathering first aid kits, sorting humanitarian supplies, making energy bars etc.

We thank our scouting friends!

A lot of our scouting friends have already helped Ukrainian scouts and invited us to their events. Thank you!

This summer, 30 camps for 944 children were held at scout bases in 6 countries.

We continue to develop children and youth for the sake of Ukraine. Help our children develop in safety – invite Ukrainian scouts to your camps and other events.

2. Providing humanitarian aid to Ukrainians

From the first days of the full-scale invasion, we have contributed to humanitarian work in Ukraine. There are thousands of Ukrainians who suffered from the war, turning to Plast for help. Plast is made up of responsible and proactive youth who are always at hand, ready to help.

Our Plast centers across the country have turned into humanitarian hubs. Their activities are coordinated by the National Headquarters of Plast.

Currently, there are 26 local Plast headquarters and over 1,000 adult Plast volunteers who help Ukrainians with food, medicine, hygiene products, clothing, etc.

During more than a year and a half of the war

500 000+

people

have received assistance.

4 500

people

received help with evacuation and temporary housing.

3 000

people

received help for pets.

9 050

tons

of humanitarian aid was sent to Ukrainians.

Social initiatives

If you want to become our partner or can send humanitarian aid, write to us.

Helping Ukrainians affected by the war, who turn to Plast for assistance is an important step in supporting our country. We work with the following categories of humanitarian aid:
• medicine;
• hygiene products;
• food for long-term storage (cereals, pasta, sugar, salt, canned food, baby food, etc.).

3. We support scouts in the army

Over 530 scouts stepped forward to protect Ukraine, because it is the duty of every scout to love their country and do everything possible for its development.

There are many needs, and resources in our country are extremely limited. Sometimes a first aid kit or a helmet, provided in time, is enough to save the life. So for scouts in the military, we purchase basic equipment (uniforms, shoes, helmets, etc.), sleeping bags, medicine, food, etc.

Unfortunately, 40 Scouts-defenders have already lost their lives in the war initiated by Russia. We feel an obligation to support their families as well.

We are able to purchase necessary items due to the support of partners and because of donations of caring people who work together with us for the victory of Ukraine!

Who are we helping

After victory, he dreams of returning home to his wife, a scout, and 2-year-old daughter.
